Lyrics Quiz

By Karin at 5:30 pm on April 28, 2008 | 5 Comments

I found this on Scrivenings and it looked fun, so here goes…

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike through when someone gets them right
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING.

1. You can’t stop an avalanche as it races down the hill. (You Can’t Stop the Beat - from Hairspray)

2. Where do I go when I need a shelter? (Where Do I Go - Amy Grant)

3. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m right, maybe I just don’t know.

4. Never know how much I love you, never know how much I care. (Fever - Michael Buble)

5. When the rain comes it seems that everyone has gone away. (When the Rain Comes - Third Day; although the recording that popped up in my iTunes was actually the one recorded by us at church…lol!)

6. And so it is, just like you said it would be. (The Blower’s Daughter - Damien Rice)

7. I’m gonna get my drink on, gonna hear me a sad song.

8. Please don’t do what I say, ’cause if you don’t love me, it’s worthless anyway.

9. Tonight the, tonight the hills are watching her as she runs toward the sea.

10. Old man Wrigley lived in that white house down the street where I grew up. (Believe - Brooks & Dunn)

11. I’m the friendly stranger in the black sedan oh won’t you hop inside my car? (Vehicle - Ides of March)

12. Friday night and the moon is high, wide awake just watching you sleep.

13. Well I tried, but I won’t give in. That’s alright, ’cause I’m going to win.

14. Well I’m sure it never used to be so hard, this hard.

15. Hail holy queen enthroned above, oh Maria. (Hail, Holy Queen - Sister Act)

16. Look at us baby up all night, tearing our love apart. (I Can’t Tell You Why - Eagles)

17. Oh it’s been getting so hard living with the things you do to me.

18. Every time I fall down on my face, I see the one who bore all my shame. (Understand - Jeremy Camp)

19. You can spend your whole life building something from nothing, one storm can come and blow it all away. (Anyway - Martina McBride)

20. County Road 233 under my feet.

21. You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life. (Dancing Queen - ABBA)

22. There were all these people oh just waitin’ there.

23. Birds flying high, you know how I feel.

24. Could a body close the mind out? Stitch a seam across the eye?

25. Ooh, I want to find a better place. Ooh, I’m searching for a better place.

Haiku

By Karin at 10:21 pm on April 22, 2008 | No comments

Calendar

Sundays are quiet
Sleeping in and hanging out
Ending with music

Mondays are boring
The week stretches out ahead
What is for dinner?

Tuesdays are busy
We seem to always rehearse
Then it’s Idol time

Wednesdays for shopping
I hate putting stuff away
Why is it hump day?

Thursdays are silly
I don’t know why I said that
Nothing else made sense

Fridays are hurried
Lonely nights with my laptop
Mike’s always gigging

Saturdays happy
The day we spend together
Being a family*

*Dialectically, family can have either 2 or 3 syllables - for my purposes, I chose 2, but if it bugs you, read it as Being family.

Six Word Memoir

By Karin at 11:13 am on April 11, 2008 | 1 Comment

BrightStar tagged me with this meme several days ago, but then I got sick and life was put on hold. I am finally starting to feel better, so I’m doing it now!

Here are the instructions:

1. Write your own six word memoir.
2. Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like.
3. Link to the person that tagged you in your post and to this original post (??) if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere.
4. Tag five more blogs with links.
5. And don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play.

Here is my memoir:

I’m a mom who writes songs.

I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to write, because six words is not a lot of space to get your point across, but being a mom and being a songwriter are the two things I’ve wanted to do most in my life, and it’s taken me a good chunk of my life to get to a place where I was able to do either one of them. I also think the order is important, because first and foremost in my life right now is motherhood. LG is always my number one priority because she needs me. But, the songwriting is something I’ve always wanted to do in my heart of hearts and it’s coming along. I think LG is a big part of my inspiration anyway. I often joke (or maybe it’s not a joke) that the mingling of Mike’s DNA with mine while I was pregnant was what gave me the ability to start writing songs. True or not, it’s kind of an interesting thought, isn’t it?

Anyway, there’s my memoir. I won’t tag, but I think Rochelle should definitely try it and anyone else who wants to give it a shot!

Ten Things You’ll Never Hear Me Say

By Karin at 10:40 pm on February 19, 2008 | 2 Comments

Jen tagged me for 10 things you’ll never hear me say and even though I don’t always have time to respond to tags, I’ll give this one a shot since I seem to be lacking for blog material lately anyway. :)

1. Hey honey, if we get pregnant again, I’d really love to have triplets.

2. I think I’ll vote for Barack Obama.

3. I think I’ll vote for Hilary Clinton.

4. I’m changing my party affiliation to Democrat.

5. Chocolate? Who needs chocolate?

6. Let’s get a cat.

7. I think I’d like to try bungee jumping.

8. I can’t wait until July. I love the heat so much.

9. You want to hire a cleaning company? Why would you do that when I love to clean soooo much!

10. Don’t worry honey, I’ll do the dishes tonight and every night from now on.

Those who know me in real life are probably laughing themselves silly over some of those. ;)

I won’t tag anyone, but if you want to give it a shot, feel free!

Grumpiness and a Meme

By Karin at 10:57 pm on January 22, 2008 | 1 Comment

Friday I got a bill from the anesthesiologist who did the anesthesia for my ablation procedure last summer. Yes, a bill from something that happened in July. Stupid. And did I mention the bill was for $608? Yeah. Not happy. I tried to call about it yesterday, but oh yeah, it was a holiday so they were closed. So I called the insurance today and it seems that the anesthesiologist was “out of network”, so I am expected to pay the co-insurance on it. Um, hello? Should they not have figured all of that out before I had my procedure? Am I supposed to interview everyone in the operating room before I go under to make sure they’re all in my network? Wtf? I was in a network hospital being worked on by a network cardiologist. It is ridiculous that I should have to worry about whether or not the anesthesiologist is in the “network” or not. Just another way that insurance companies are ruining the health care system. Ugh.

And then today there was the new of the sudden death of Heath Ledger. I know people die every day. But he’s a dad. And I’ve enjoyed his movies. And he was only 28 years old. So sad.

Since I have nothing but sad and/or grumpy things to talk about, I thought I’d lighten it up a bit with a meme I found at 123Duck!. (Read on …)

Christmas Meme

By Karin at 8:25 am on December 8, 2007 | No comments

I’m feeling grumpy about some family stuff today, but I can’t really rant about it, so I’ll just leave you with this meme which I got from Jen at Never a Dull Moment

Wrapping Paper or Gift Bags?

Usually wrapping paper at Christmas, but I use gift bags for pretty much everything else unless it’s a little one who likes to tear the paper.

Real tree or artificial?

I cannot stand fake trees (no offense to those of you who have them - differences are what makes the world go round), and I love Noble Firs. If we could get a live Noble Fir here, I’d be all over it, but we can’t so we get a cut tree every year.

When do you put up the tree?

After LG’s birthday, but before New Year’s Day.

When do you take the tree down?

Depends when we put it up.

Do you like eggnog?

Not particularly. I prefer hot cider.

Favorite gift received?

I honestly cannot come up with an answer to this. Perhaps my brain is too foggy from illness.

Do you have a nativity scene?

No. Does that make me a bad Catholic? Oh well.

Hardest person to buy for?

My husband because he always tells me not to get him anything or his answer to the question “what do you want” is “I don’t know” because when he needs something he buys it.

Easiest person to buy for?

Little Girl of course!

Worst gift you ever received?

A gift is a gift, so it’s the thought that counts, right?

Mail or email Christmas cards?

Mail. It’s the only time I communicate with certain people, so it would be rude to send email, besides the fact that a lot of the people on my list do not have email that I’m aware of. It doesn’t hurt to spend a little time and effort at Christmastime. The rest of the year is fine for email. Christmas is not.

Favorite Christmas movie?

Oooh, toughie. I’ll say…It’s a Wonderful Life

When do you start shopping for Christmas?

Usually after LG’s birthday is over. I’ve got to start earlier, though. I drive myself nuts.

Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

Not that I can remember.

Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?

Fudge. But I can’t eat that anymore. *sniffle*

Clear lights or colored on the tree?

Colored. Clear on the house though.

Favorite Christmas Song?

I can only pick one? Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Travel at Christmas or stay home?

Stay home where it’s warm and the sun is shining.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Without even looking them up: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen, and Rudolph of course!

Angel on top of the tree or star?

Must be an angel. We always had an angel when I was a kid, and on our after-Christmas shopping trip a few weeks before Mike and I got married, I found a beautiful porcelain angel. I wasn’t going to get it, but I kept going back to it and my (future) mother-in-law told me I should get it. So I did, and I love it.

Open the presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?

Usually Christmas morning.

Most annoying thing about this time of year?

Too much to do, too little time.

What I love most about Christmas?

The chance to give back to those we love. And the music.

Right or Left?

By Karin at 2:10 pm on November 9, 2007 | 1 Comment

Mike and I were having a discussion earlier about whether we thought we were right or left brained and what that meant for LG. For the record, Mike said he thought he was more right brained and I said I thought I was pretty even on both sides. So then, just to test our theories out, I searched out a quiz on internet for fun.

Mike scored 35% left brained and 65% right brained. And here’s mine:

You Are 50% Left Brained, 50% Right Brained

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning. Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others. If you’re left brained, you are likely good at math and logic. Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility. Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way. If you’re right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art. Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

NaBloPoMo

By Karin at 8:34 am on November 2, 2007 | No comments

So, hey did I tell you I decided to jump on the bandwagon and do the NaBloPoMo thing? (In English, that’s post every day for the month of November.) No? I didn’t mention that?

Well, maybe that’s because I just made up my mind yesterday afternoon that I was going to give it a shot. So, um, yeah, hey everybody! I’m doing the NaBloPoMo thing!

I used to post every single day without fail. And I mean every. single. day. And because I posted every single day, I had to make sure that I did indeed post because I didn’t want to break my streak. But inevitably, life happened, and one day I didn’t post and so I didn’t feel this overwhelming need to post every single day anymore. And now, I can go two or three days without posting and not feel a bit guilty. And I think that’s a good thing really.

Anyway, if you’re on the NaBloPoMo (I just like typing that) bandwagon, please make me your friend! And if you’re not and you wanna be, well, then click the link way up in the first paragraph and join in. There’s still time!

It’s All About ME!

By Karin at 11:09 am on June 23, 2007 | 8 Comments

Because I haven’t felt at all inspired lately, I thought I’d share a few little facts about myself, courtesy of one of those memes that I found over at Angel’s…

Facts about Karin:

1. Were you named after anyone?
No. My mom was reading through the baby name book and when she got to ‘Karen’, my dad said “that’s it!” She chose to spell it with an ‘I’ to be unique, and I much prefer it that way!

2. When was the last time you cried?
In the parking lot of the doctor’s office after being told I was again in atrial flutter after almost two years.

3. Do you like your handwriting?
It’s okay. Sometimes I really like it if I’m not rushing.

4. What is your favorite lunch meat?
I don’t have a favorite really. Whatever I’m in the mood for at the time. I do love salami though!

5. Do you have kids?
1 human (2 1/2) and 1 furry (19 months) and 3 furry in heaven that will forever be my kids

6. If you were another person, would you be friends with you?
I’d like to think so!

7. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Moi? Why would I do that? *cough cough*

8. Do you still have your tonsils?
Yes, yes I do actually!

9. Would you bungee jump?
Absolutely not. My biggest fear is the fear of falling, so that would be rather silly wouldn’t it?

10. What is your favorite cereal?
I’m not a huge cereal fan, but I do like my Frosted Flakes. That is LG’s cereal of choice at the moment, too, due to running out of Honey Nut Cheerios…lol!

11. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?
On the rare occasion that I wear shoes with laces, I do not untie them unless I can’t get them off otherwise. I’m a slip-on kind of girl.

12. Do you think you are strong?
Physically, when I’m in shape, I’m fairly strong. Emotionally, I think I’m pretty strong - I’ve been through a lot of stuff and survived. I do have my moments of weakness, though.

13. What is your favorite ice cream?
My very favorite ice cream ever is my dad’s homemade strawberry.

14. What is the first thing you notice about people?
Definitely the eyes and the smile.

15. Red or pink?
I don’t really like either one, but I guess I’d choose a very soft pastel pink. (Shocked some of you who know of my aversion to pink, didn’t I?)

16. What is the least favorite thing about yourself?
At the moment, probably my heart, but usually my weight.

17. Who do you miss the most?
My mother.

18. What color pants and shoes are you wearing?
Black shorts and no shoes.

19. What was the last thing you ate?
A banana.

20. What are you listening to right now?
The sounds of Mike in the kitchen washing dishes and LG playing in the living room and walking toward the bedroom.

21. If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Midnight blue

22. Favorite smells?
Little Girl, Mike, anything with garlic in it, cilantro, flowers, rain on the creosote

23. Who was the last person you talked to on the phone?
Mike last night at 3 am because he wasn’t home yet and I was slightly worried (there was band drama so it made him late).

24. Favorite sport to watch?
It used to be baseball, but the Diamondbacks and their ugliest uniforms in the Major Leagues are dead to me now, so it’s basketball.

25. Hair color[s]?
I’m not sure what you’d call it - kind of light brown with blonde highlights. It’s not real, though…lol!

26. Eye color?
blue-gray

27. Do you wear contacts?
Nope.

28. Favorite food?
Salmon, pizza, pasta, anything with garlic

29. Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings. I do NOT like scary movies.

30. Last movie you watched?
At the theatre - Pirates of the Caribbean 3
At home - Fortunes of Captain Blood (I guess I’m in a pirate mood…lol!)

31. What color shirt are you wearing?
Light blue

32. Summer or winter?
Between those two it’s winter, but really my favorite season is Fall.

33. Hugs or kisses?
Definitely both - especially from LG.

34. Favorite dessert?
I love dessert in general, but we’ll go with creme brulee :)

35. What book are you reading now?
I’m trying to motivate myself to read all the Harry Potters before the new one comes out, but I’m not having much luck right now because of how yucky I feel.

36. What is on your mouse pad?
Don’t use one

37. What did you watch on T.V. last night?
National Bingo Night

38. Favorite sound[s]?
Little Girl, music, rain

39. Rolling Stones or Beatles?
Hmm, depends on the song, but in general, I’d go with the Beatles.

40. What is the farthest you have been from home?
Paris, France :)

41. Do you have a special talent?
I am the queen of Google…lol!

42. Where were you born?
Phoenix, Arizona

Feel free to join in and leave a comment if you do. :)

In Case You Didn’t Already Know…

By Karin at 4:10 pm on May 5, 2007 | 1 Comment

A little bit after 2 a.m. tomorrow morning (and 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon if you’re not using a 24 hour clock) it will be…

02:03:04, 05/06/07

and a little bit after 8 a.m., it will be…

05/06/07, 08:09:10

Of course this only works in the United States or anywhere else that the date is abbreviated with the month first.

Because I Have Nothing If I Don’t Have a Post

By Karin at 10:14 pm on March 13, 2007 | 3 Comments

I got nothing today, so I’m totally stealing this from Susie.

And now without further ado, a meme about condiments.

1. What do you like on a hot dog?
When I was a kid I liked mayo, and there are times when I still put mayo on my hot dogs. Yes, mayo. :P But most of the time, I’ll go with mustard and ketchup, easy on the mustard. Actually what I most like on a hot dog is corn dog breading.

2. What do you like on a hamburger?
Most of the time I like mayo and nothing else. But sometimes, I’ll take some cheese and ketchup and lettuce as well.

3. What do you like on a baked potato?
Sour cream and chives and butter.

4. What do you like on a slice of toast?
Butter and grape jelly or whatever other jelly there might be in the vicinity.

5. What do you like in a cup of coffee or tea?
I do not like coffee at all. If it’s iced tea, I like Sweet N Low. If it’s hot tea, I like to drink it the English way with milk or cream and also some Sweet N Low.

Wasting Time for a Good Cause

By Karin at 8:39 pm on December 9, 2006 | 5 Comments

If you’ve got some times on your hands, go here and waste some time for a good cause. The more snowflakes that are made, the more the site will donate to charity. It’s a win win situation - you get to have fun and be creative and still feel like you’re doing it for a good reason instead of just because you have nothing better to do!

As for me, it’s keeping me sane since our neighbor is having a party with a live band in his back yard. Yay. :P

LG: I hear da bass! (Click to hear her say it!)

That was for you, Rochelle ;)
