Appetizer
What do you consider to be the ultimate snack food?

Oh goodness, I guess I’d have to say crunchy Cheetos, because I can’t think of anything else!

Soup
On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 as highest), about how popular is your last name?

I’d have to say it’s pretty low on the scale, at least in the United States, so I’ll give it a 2.

Salad
Who is your all-time favorite sitcom character, and why?

Wow, that’s a toughie - there are so many good ones out there - but I’d have to go with Lucy Ricardo from I Love Lucy, played by the amazing Lucille Ball. I never get tired of watching Lucy reruns and every scene that I remember from that show and can play over and over in my mind has her featured prominently in it. She was the diva of sitcoms.

Main Course
Do you shop online? If so, name some sites you like to browse for goodies.

Absolutely. Mostly I shop amazon.com, but I’ve been known to order from quilting shops and craft shops like Joanns.com as well.

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I think ___________ should be ___________.

Oh these fill in the blanks are so hard! Let’s see…

I think money should be easier to get. lol!

Appetizer
Name a sound you like to hear.

The sound of my child’s laughter.

Soup
What is your favorite kind of cheese?

That’s a toughy, because I love cheese. I guess I’d have to say Colby Jack.

Salad
Do you sleep late on Saturday mornings? Why or why not?

Not really. I pretty much get up at the same time every day which is whenever my daughter wakes up which is somewhere between 7 and 8:30. On Saturdays, I have to get up with her so she doesn’t wake my husband up because he usually gets in very late from his gigs.

Main Course
When was the last time you forgot something? What was it, and how long did it take to remember it?

I don’t remember. ;-)

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I notice ____________ when _____________.

I notice people when they smile.

List 3 emotions you experienced this week.

Excitement, frustration, and rejoicing.

Soup
Name a car you’d love to have.

A Ford Mustang

Salad
Describe your typical morning routine.

Wake up, go to the bathroom, get LG and let her watch Sesame Street while I check my email and do my morning internet rounds.

Main Course
Have you ever emailed someone famous? If so, who, and what did you say to them? Did they reply?

I emailed two authors, Shanna Swendson and Candace Havens, to tell them that I had enjoyed their books, and they both emailed me back!

Dessert
Do you listen to podcasts? If so, which ones?

I used to listen to them on a regular basis, but I can’t seem to find the time to do it anymore. I hope that will change at some point. (Maybe someone needs to give me an iPod…lol!) The two that I listened to on a regular basis were PotterCast and MuggleCast, both of which I highly recommend if you are a Harry Potter fanatic.

Friday’s Feast the 17th

By Karin at 8:46 am on May 4, 2007 | 5 Comments

My internet connection is not very stable right now, so if I don’t answer emails or get to your blog today, it’s not for lack of trying! The tech is coming tomorrow to see what’s up, but until then, it might be hit or miss.

Appetizer
Name something you would not want to own.

Well, I would not want to own a pool at this point in time, since my daughter is very small and hasn’t started swimming lessons yet, and I’m still not quite a swimmer even though I took a few lessons. Hopefully, in the future, this will change and we’ll both be comfortable in the water!

Soup
Describe your hair (texture, color, length, etc.).

Right now it’s just above my shoulders - chin length I guess. I am not sure what the color is called since it’s not my natural color…lol! But it’s got some lovely blonde highlights in it. As for texture, all three of us in this house have thick, fine hair.

Salad
Finish this sentence: I’ll never forget ___________.

I’ll never forget the day my daughter was born. It was a little scary because I had to have an emergency c-section and she was 8 weeks early, but the end result was amazing, and hearing that little cry was the best sound I’ve ever heard in my life.

Main Course
Which famous person would you like to be for one day? Why?

Goodness. I don’t know that there is really any famous person I’d like to be, even for just one day. Maybe Bill Gates so I could give a lot of his money away…lol!

Dessert
Write one sentence about yourself that includes one thing that is true and another thing that is not.

I have 17 first cousins and 3 siblings.

Appetizer
How fast can you type?

I’m not really sure how fast I can type nowadays, but “back in the day” I could type 120 wpm. :D

Soup
What is your favorite online game?

I don’t play too many online games, but I do like Boxerjam.

Salad
On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 as highest), how intelligent do you think you are?

It depends on the subject. Some things would rate a 10, and others a 1, and others anywhere in between…lol!

Main Course
Name three of your best teachers from your school years.

My kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Johnson, started my schooling off on the right foot. She was a wonderful lady and a great teacher.

One of my college choir directors, Mrs. Sessions, was my mentor and the person I learned the most from out of every teacher I ever had. I only wish she was still here.

And finally, my voice teacher from college, Dr. Claflin, was one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. She helped me develop confidence in myself and my abilities as a singer.

Dessert
What are your plans for this upcoming weekend?

This weekend is the church festival, so I’ll be there off and on helping out with some of the activiites. Sunday night I won’t be singing at mass, though, because LG doesn’t have a babysitter, so she gets to go to church with us, which means I get to sit in the congregation and keep her “under control”…lol! On a sad note, we’ll be attending my cousin’s funeral on Saturday afternoon.

Wow, it’s been a really long time, but if I remember correctly, I really liked midnight blue.

Soup
On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest), how likely would you be to change jobs if it required you to move?

I don’t have a job outside of the home right now, but if I did it would probably be a 0…lol! I like where I live.

Salad
Take all the numbers in your birthday and your phone number and add them up, one by one. What’s the total?

73

Main Course
Have you ever “re-gifted” anything? If so, what was it and who did you pass it on to?

This weekend when I was stupid enough to stay up til 3 a.m. two nights in a row, but still was awoken around 7 by LG.

Harry Potter of course!

Friday’s Feast the 12th and Blogiversary the 5th

By Karin at 11:20 pm on March 29, 2007 | 11 Comments

I can’t let this day pass without mentioning my 5th Blogiversary. Thanks to all my regular visitors and commenters for caring about my little world. And thanks to all of you who might be stopping by for the first time! Here’s to 5 more years! :)

Now on with the feast!

Appetizer
What are you proud of?

Easy question - I’m proud of my beautiful Little Girl. She is the best thing I’ve ever done. I’m also proud of the work I’ve put into my marriage. And I’m proud that I graduated from college.

Soup
What is the best thing you’ve ever won as a prize?

I’m sure I’m forgetting something really spectacular, but the best thing I can think of right now is a nice big box of scrapbooking supplies from an online contest.

Salad
Name something you do that is a waste of time.

Probably half the time I spend on the internet is a waste of time…lol!

Main Course
In what year of your life did you change the most?

Wow. I can pinpoint several specific years in which I changed a lot. Obviously the year after I got married; the year after I had my heart attack (age 28); the year after I graduated from college; the year after I got my last teaching job; the year after my mother died. But probably the year that I changed the most was the year after my daughter was born. I think becoming a parent changes you more than anything else in your life does.

Dessert
Where is a place you consider to be very tranquil?

I would have to say the shower or the bathtub. That’s where I can really relax and let my mind wander and not worry about things for a little while.

Congratulations to Susie on her very cool new site for Friday’s Feast. Come join the feast!

Friday’s Feast the Eleventh

By Karin at 9:37 pm on March 22, 2007 | 23 Comments

Appetizer
Who is your favorite news anchor/reporter? Why?
I really don’t have one at this time. I used to love Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw and Jane Pauley back in the day, but they are either no longer with us or no longer anchors. (Am I showing my age now? lol!) So I guess my favorite is whoever reports the news fairly.

Soup
Name 3 foods that are currently in your freezer.
Let’s see…there’s some salmon, some ground beef, and some green beans. That’s what I can think of off the top of my head.

Salad
If you were to have the opportunity to name a new town or city, what would you call it?
I live in a city (Phoenix) that has what I consider to be a really cool name with a great mythology behind it. I guess I’d have to go with “Harmony” and hope it doesn’t turn out like the Harmony on the soap opera Passions!

Main Course
What will most likely be the next book you read?
Well, I just started reading In the Shadows of War by Thomas Childers, so I hope that will the be the next one I finish at least!

Dessert
What’s the first thing you notice about the opposite gender?
Their eyes, their smile, their intelligence. :)

Friday’s Feast the Tenth

By Karin at 12:01 am on March 16, 2007 | 3 Comments

Appetizer
Name two things that made you smile this week.
As always, my daughter, but in particular this week was her undying love for “Mercan Lidol” and “Jordin!”
Also, finishing an outfit for my daughter and her quilt top made me quite pleased!

Soup
Fill in the blank: Don’t you hate it when ________?
Don’t you hate it when you feel like you are eating better and the scale says you have gained weight? Grr.

Salad
When you can’t go to sleep, what is your personal remedy to help yourself drift into Lullabyland?
Well, if I’m really wide awake, I surf on my laptop. But, if I’m somewhat tired, I have a little word game I play that works better than counting sheep. Basically I go through the alphabet making as many words as I can. For instance, I start with “ab” and think of as many words as I can that end in “ab” as in cab, dab, fab, gab, jab, lab, nab, tab. Then I go to “ac” and so on. You may think I’m crazy, but it works for me…lol!

Main Course
What is something about which you’ve always wondered but have not yet found a good answer?
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Dessert
What is your favorite pasta dish?
I don’t know that it’s possible to choose just one favorite pasta dish, but I think I’ll go with a dish that they no longer make at Olive Garden - ravioli with a mixture of marinara and alfredo. That was an awesome dish. Now I eat the chicken scampi instead.

Come to the feast!

Friday’s Feast the Ninth

By Karin at 12:01 am on March 9, 2007 | 8 Comments

Appetizer
What is your usual bedtime? Do you like that, or would you rather it be different?

My usual bedtime is somewhere around 11 pm or 12 am depending on how tired I am. If I’m really tired, I fall asleep earlier, but since I usually don’t have to get up until 8ish, that time works for me. I’m definitely a night person and not a morning person, so I like staying up late better than getting up early. I missed that when I was working outside the home.

Soup
When it comes to advice, do you give more or receive more?

On the whole, I probably give more, but I do often ask for advice from my best friend about kid stuff since she’s got way more experience than I do…lol!

Salad
Describe a memorable meal you’ve had.

Oh goodness. I would have to say that all the meals I had in Paris were really memorable tastewise. Especially the desserts. My advice to all of you if you ever go to Paris, is to not skip dessert. There are no bad desserts in Paris! lol!

Main Course
Name a work of fiction that affected the way you think about something.

Wow. I’m not a huge fiction reader, so I’m just going to say Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli. I had to read this book for a teaching class I was taking and it was really a fabulous book. And the great thing is that when I went to look for the link to put in this post, I found out there is a sequel coming out this year! Can’t wait!

Dessert
What is your favorite type of fruit juice?

Ah! An easy one. No hesitation, no competition. My favorite juice is cran-grape, hands down.

Friday’s Feast the 8th

By Karin at 2:00 am on March 2, 2007 | 3 Comments

Appetizer
What does the color pink make you think of?
On the positive side - baby girls. On the negative side - pepto bismol.

Soup
Name something you thought you had lost, but later found.
When I was pregnant, I thought I lost my feet, but I did finally find them again. ;)

Salad
In 3 words, describe this past week.
busy, hectic, frustrating

Main Course
What are you obsessed with?
Lately, reading blogs and sewing.

Dessert
What kind of perfume or cologne do you like to wear?
Anais Anais. I got a bottle when I was about 19, and I’ve worn it ever since. My husband doesn’t like any other perfume on me. He refers to that perfume as “Karin smell”. :)

There’s a seat at the table for you!

Friday’s Feast the 7th

By Karin at 12:01 am on February 23, 2007 | 11 Comments

Appetizer
Where on your body do you have a scar, and what caused it?
Well, there are four that I can think of. I have two on my left arm - one from a heart catheterization when I was 2, and one from falling off the teeter totter when I was 6 or so. I have one on my chest from when I was 4 and had open heart surgery. And I have my c-section scar.

Soup
What is something that has happened to you that you would consider a miracle?
This is an easy question. I consider my daughter’s conception, gestation and birth a miracle. It’s too long a story to recount here, but trust me, it was all pretty miraculous.

Salad
Name a television personality who really gets on your nerves.
Um, er, I dunno. The co-host on Dancing with the Stars?

Main Course
What was a funny word you said as a child (such as “pasketti” for “spaghetti”)?
I honestly don’t know of any, but my daughter says “noneck” for yogurt :)

Dessert
Fill in the blank: I have always thought ______ was ______.
I have always thought Hallmark commercials were sappy, but in a good way.

Friday’s Feast the 6th

By Karin at 5:00 am on February 16, 2007 | 6 Comments

Appetizer
What sound, other than the normal ringing, would you like your telephone to make?
I love having real songs on my phone (and by “real”, I mean actual recordings by real recording artists). I think I’d also like to have my little girl’s voice on it as well, like maybe when Mike calls, it could be her saying “Dat Papa!” or when Marlene calls “Dat Monene!” or when Rochelle calls “Dat Shochelle!” and stuff like that…lol!

Soup
Describe your usual disposition in meteorological terms (partly cloudy, sunny, stormy, etc.).
This is an awesome question! I would say “mostly sunny, but sudden thunderstorms possible.” ;)

Salad
What specific subject do you feel you know better than any other subjects?
Wow, that’s a toughie. I’m going to have to say I know a lot about music and a lot about teaching and quite a bit about several other things, but I don’t think I know any one subject extremely better than any other.

Main Course
Imagine you were given the ability to remember everything you read for one entire day. Which books/magazines/newspapers would you choose to read?
Can you read the entire Wikipedia in one day? (I know it’s not a book/magazine or newspaper, but I’d love to be able to remember all that information…lol!)

Dessert
If a popular candy maker contacted you to create their next confection, what would it be like and what would you name it?
Well, since they don’t make the seven-up bar anymore, I’d bring that back, but my flavors would be:
1) the cherry that is in the cherry cordial Hershey’s kisses
2) vanilla cream
3) caramel
4) marshmallow cream
5) orange cream
6) mint
7) fudge
and I would call it “Seventh Heaven”.
