Happy Birthday Honey!

Happy 43rd birthday to my awesome wonderful put-up-with-me-able husband!

I started off the morning by telling him that I’d just found out the mortgage payment on the rental house was due yesterday and I hadn’t paid it because I assumed it was due the 14th like it was last month, forgetting that February is a shorter month. STUPID CALENDAR. I called the mortgage company to 1) figure out how to pay it online and 2) beg them to take the late fee off because it was an honest mistake and I’ve never paid it late before. Well, they told me that they don’t put late fees on until 10 days past due. Which means I still had time to mail it! Hurray for me! (And I just saw the mail truck come and pick it up while I was typing this, so we’re good to go.)

I also told him if he wasn’t home for dinner by 6, so we could be done by 7 (in time for American Idol), I might have to kill him and that would be sad since it was his birthday and all. Am I a good wife or what? Edited at 7 pm to add: Of course, I just realized that American Idol isn’t on until 8. But he was home at 6!

On the other hand, on the way home from the grocery store, we stopped at the church where he was in a staff meeting, and decorated his car with a balloon and streamers.

I’m also making his favorite pasta dish for dinner and LG and I are about to go make this yummy chocolate cake for dessert. And I got candles and birthday plates even. So, I’m not totally rotten. ;)

Either way, Happy birthday honey. I love you more than I could ever say.

I’m a Bad Mammo Jammo

By Karin at 5:50 am on February 4, 2008 | 2 Comments

Edited to add: The squishing went as well as the squishing can go. It’s not fun, but it’s not horrible. And at least I’m done until next year! Yay!

So, it’s 5:45 am and I’m awake. At least today I know why I’m awake.

For most or all of my life, I’ve had this infernal body clock. I call it infernal because while it usually works pretty darn well, it sometimes works too well. Like, you know, waking me up at 4:30 am for a 9:10 am appointment. Helpful. Well, okay, I have to be there at 8:30 am. But still, 4 hours is a little excessive don’t you think? I tried for an hour to go back to sleep, but no go. So finally I gave up. Of course, I’m getting sleepy again, but I don’t dare go back to sleep. I do have an alarm set at least, so if I do fall asleep, it should (theoretically) wake me up.

I am so paranoid about missing appointments that I set alarms, send myself email reminders, put it on my computer calendar and send myself text messages. Par.a.noid.

Today’s appointment is my first yearly mammogram. I’ve had mammograms before, so I’m not really scared of the process, I just know that it’s not painless. Boobs were not made to be squished between plexiglass plates. That’s just not what they are there for. But. It’s a necessity, so off I will go in about 2 1/2 hours. And then it will be over. Until next year.

Hurray for the 40s. Bah humbug.

Forty-something Part 2

By Karin at 2:13 pm on February 1, 2008 | 1 Comment

Please tell me you’ve had this kind of conversation before…

Mike: What’s up?

Me: Just checking in with you.

Mike: I’m in the car, going to stop at the bank and to get some food and then I’ll be home.

Me: Okay.

Mike: Didn’t I just talk to you five minutes ago?

Me: Did you?

Mike: I thought I did.

Me: Huh. I called you five minutes ago?

Mike: I thought you did.

Me: Huh. Oh, well, see you when you get home then!

I think he was right. But for the life of me I didn’t remember calling him five minutes before that. I’ll plead temporary insanity because right before I called him the 2nd(?) time, LG told me “someone was here” and I looked out the window to see a truck in the driveway that ended up belonging to the power company - checking the meter. But yeah. Forty-something.
