As for explaining the second wife, I think you probably should find a way, one that doesn't exactly tell the truth but that tells her something. Now that she knows, she's going to wonder and sooner or later another awkward situation is going to pop up. That's my two cents anyways. ;) Love the idea of planting a tree!
