I’ll try and add pictures later!

Our little 5 year old has been celebrating for about a week now. It started last Saturday with photos and the receipt of a birthday present from a cousin on the East coast which she had permission to open. Then on Tuesday she got to be the special helper at school and she took treat bags to share with her classmates.

Wednesday was her actual birthday and we took her out to lunch at Macaroni Grill (her favorite restaurant) and had cake for dessert. Then she had dance that afternoon and took treat bags for her dance friends as well.

Thursday I baked her cake and that night her dad decorated her cake with homemade buttercream frosting.

Today we had the pseudo birthday party. I say pseudo because it wasn’t a full out party like we normally have. Having been sick and so much other stuff going on, we just had a little celebration after our rehearsal this morning. Pretty much all the people that she requested to be there were there for rehearsal anyway, so it worked. She opened her presents (she got some realllly cool stuff) and then we ate her Stellaluna Bat Cake. (Stellaluna is the story of a baby bat who gets separated from her mother and ends up living with a family of birds. I love that she chose to base her cake on a literary character. My kid is already a geek! Yay!)

She got fairy wings to decorate (already decorated and she’s been wearing them all afternoon), several books (one really cool one about insects - after all, my child picks up termites with her bare hands and feeds them to ants), two horses (one small and one large - since she got to ride a horse next door the other night), fairy paper dolls (which she has been playing with all afternoon while wearing her fairy wings), a Snoopy stuffed animal, and….I think that’s all. Cool presents!

My dad came over this morning and Mike’s parents came over later this afternoon since they were otherwise engaged this morning. When my dad left, she asked him why he had to leave and he told her because his wife was sick and he needed to get home to her. To which she replied, “your wife is up heaven!” (meaning my mom). Awkward! He told her he was talking about his second wife, and it dawned on me that I’ve never actually explained that he has another wife. I mean it’s not like she’s ever met her and she’s just a little girl, so it’s just never come up. And even so, it might lead to even more awkward questions like for instance, why has she never met her? Can’t very well answer THAT one truthfully to a small child now can I? (Since the answer is that she who shall not be named wants nothing to do with LG.) So there ya go. Marlene and Bass Girl were sitting at the table nearby when this exchange occurred and we all exchanged meaningful glances as we waited to see what was going to hit the fan. Luckily nothing did. Whew.

Mike got our Christmas tree(s) after everyone left. He wanted a potted one this year that he could plant in the yard after Christmas is over, but he had also received a coupon for $50 off a cut tree (we normally get a Noble Fir). So for the same amount he would normally spend on a cut Noble Fir, he got both the Noble Fir and the potted Eldarica that he’ll plant in the yard. So that made us both happy. Yay!

My back pain seems to be gone. Surprise surprise. Or not. And off the medication for two days now, my blood pressure has been stellar today. Better than it was yesterday. What that means I have no idea. But it’s interesting nonetheless.

Have I ever mentioned that I suck at making breakfast foods? I do. Mike is always in charge of scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes and waffles. However, I have lately found out that I’m good at making omelets. I usually make them for lunch or dinner, though, so I guess it doesn’t actually count as a breakfast food. I usually look in the veggie drawer and chop up whatever veggies sound interesting, maybe throw in some ham or something and add a few spices and a little cheese. Yum. Today I made an “Italian” themed omelet with green onions, basil, oregano, garlic, salt, pepper and Mozzarella cheese. It was quite yummy and smelled realllly good. So good that Mike asked me to make him one, too! Yay me! I can make omelets! I will not die of starvation if the only thing in the house is eggs. ;)

All right, that’s it for now. When I stop being lazy I’ll get some photos added to this post!

Sounds like LG had a great week! As for explaining the second wife, I think you probably should find a way, one that doesn’t exactly tell the truth but that tells her something. Now that she knows, she’s going to wonder and sooner or later another awkward situation is going to pop up. That’s my two cents anyways. ;)

Love the idea of planting a tree! I’d so do that…if we had somewhere to plant it!

    You and meds - weird.

Technically, breakfast isn’t just for breakfast. We have big breakfasts for dinner here sometimes. The one thing I can’t do is an omelet. Go figure. But I make killer french toast! ;)
