The Pain of Love

Filed under: Things That Make Me Sad — Karin at 7:35 pm on Tuesday, September 29, 2009

When you’re a parent, you love so deeply, so fully, so completely, and if you’re anything like me, whenever you hear of something happening to another child, your heart aches for the parents who have to go through the pain of their child’s pain. On the one hand, you are terrified about something like that happening to your child and on the other, you are thankful that your child is okay. I don’t think there is ever any way we can truly understand another parent’s pain when they go through something with their child unless we’ve gone through the same type of things ourselves. But we can empathize. We can put ourselves in their shoes as best we can, and we can empathize.

I have been empathizing with my BFF whose son has been deployed. And I’ve been empathizing with the parents of the girl I told you about a few weeks ago. Her name is Julia and I tell you this because I want you to keep praying for her, and I want her to have a name in your prayers so that she is a little more real to you. At the moment Julia is undergoing radiation therapy and she’s hanging in there. I believe in prayer and I believe that God will answer these prayers.

Tonight, there is a benefit concert going on, not just for Julia, but for a young man who is a cancer patient as well. At that concert are many of the top Catholic musicians in the Valley. And there are many music directors and music ministers there as well lending their voices to what must be an amazing choir. That’s where my husband is tonight. He’s singing for Julia because in his words, he would want the same done for his little girl if she needed it.

I still have a hard time holding back the tears when I think of Julia and her family, but as I said before, I believe in prayer. And I believe that Julia and her family will benefit from every prayer that is lifted on her behalf. Keep storming heaven for Julia. Whether you’re a parent or not, I’m pretty sure that you’ve had a loved one who has been affected by cancer. And I know that you would want someone to do the same for them.

Thank you.

Lord, please lift up Julia and her family during this time. Surround your precious child with angels to give her strength and your arms to remind her she is loved by you. Grant them peace and courage. Give knowledge to her doctors and caregivers to best treat this cancer so her body may be healed.
By Your Will, and in Your Name,
Amen

Still in my prayers.

And grateful mine are not in that situation and ashamed to be saying that at the same time.
