365 Days of Grace #186
Yesterday we started the morning, as is our tradition on Indepedence Day, by reading the Declaration of Independence. No matter how many times I read it, I always get choked up when I get to the part that says “that these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be free and independent states”. What they did, 233 years ago, was so brave – something we must never forget.
Yesterday afternoon, we grilled some hot dogs and hamburgers, cooked some corn on the cob and mashed potatoes, and had ice cream with strawberries and blueberries (red, white and blue!) for dessert. LG ate two hot dogs, an ear of corn, three glasses of pink Gatorade (a special treat), and a bowl of ice cream and fruit. All by herself.
Mike had a band gig, so we didn’t go anywhere to watch fireworks, but about 9 pm, LG and I trudged up the stairs and went out on the balcony to see the fireworks display that was going on a few miles to the west. She kept up a running commentary for the entire show and I just let her talk…”They must really like to shoot off fireworks! I wonder who is shooting off those fireworks. They must really like to do that. Ooo! I liked that one! That’s a pretty one. Look, a purple one!” And so forth. Non stop for half an hour. She cracks me up.
All in all, it was a pretty good day and I’m glad I got to spend it with the people I love. I hope all of you in the States had a wonderful holiday weekend with those you love as well!
