365 Days of Grace #162

Mike has been wanting to see Terminator. LG and I have been wanting to see Up. Bass Girl’s boyfriend (Navy Boy) has also been wanting to see Terminator. Bass Girl has been wanting to see Up. Navy Boy didn’t want to see Up. Bass Girl and I didn’t want to see Terminator. So, all 5 of us went to the movies this afternoon (yay for matinees!) and the boys went to Terminator while we went to Up. Perfect solution (and no babysitter needed).

Bass Girl and I loved it. I have to agree that it’s Pixar’s best movie. It was a sweet story with a great message. LG didn’t love it so much. There were some scenes that were a little intense for her and she actually started crying so much at one point that I had to take her out for a few minutes. She is both sensitive and a drama queen, so it’s kind of a difficult combination. But I think once the intense part fades away, she’ll decide she likes it.

Favorite line: “I hid under your porch because I love you.”

Again with the weather! It is sooooo beautiful right now. I walked laps around the front acre again this morning. And this evening, I sat out on the front porch reading a book while LG played and Mike worked in the garden. Please believe me when I say this is just not something that we do in June in Phoenix. It’s usually much too hot. I think, though, that this is what other people do in the summertime. People who live in cooler climates. So, I’m enjoying it while it lasts. I looked at the extended forecast and in less than two weeks we’ll be at those dreaded 110s. That’s hot, people. But we won’t break 100 again for a few more days, so we are going to enjoy it!

I also got to spend some alone time today. It was nice! Especially since Mike is going to be out of town for a couple of days soon and I will be playing the role of single parent while he is gone. Mike took LG over to play with friends’ kids that are in town. I think it was really good for her to get some casual time to interact with kids who are not her cousins or the children of her godparents, since basically the only time she interacts with kids other than them is at church or dance and even then, she’s still interacting with them! (Not that there’s anything wrong with that – my point is that it’s good for her to interact with different kids now and then…lol!)

Anyway, a good day. Hope yours was as well!

The weather has been amazing. Usually June is hot, hotter and even more hot, but the past few days have been gorgeous. This morning I actually went outside and walked for 20 minutes and barely broke a sweat. There isn’t a 100 degree day in the forecast until the 21st. I think Mother Nature is punking us, but I like it!

The best thing about today? Is that my BFF is leaving tomorrow to see her eldest child for the first time in five months. I know how happy she is, and that makes me happy. :)

• Church music was fun – we had a nice group there tonight.

• We sang a couple of my compositions and I love doing that, but at the same time it’s terrifying for me. I love writing, but I’m always worried that people are going to hate my stuff. Or get sick of me writing new songs. Or think I’m being self-indulgent by doing my own music. I guess it’s a self-esteem thing, and maybe I’ll get better at dealing with it at some point in time. (She says hopefully.)

• After Mass, pretty much the whole choir went out to Fajitas. It was lots of fun and great food. We don’t get there too often anymore, just when our friend is back in town once a year or so. But, in my opinion, the best fajitas I’ve ever tasted. Love them!

I’m going to attempt the list of 5 today…

1. Got a hair cut and color this morning!

2. Made it back across town in time for the wedding we were singing/playing at.

3. Collected LG after almost 24 hours at Grandma’s. (Missed that kid!)

4. The weather this evening (and today) was spectacular. It didn’t even break 90 degrees today.

5. Mike didn’t have to work tonight so we had some nice family time. Not great on the pocketbook, but I sure like having him home at night!

It was another Summer Movie day! Mike didn’t have anything going on today, so he got to come with us. This week it was Nim’s Island, which was a bit intense at times for my sensitive daughter. After the movie was over, she said she didn’t like it, but she later decided that she liked it “a little bit”.

Mike’s band didn’t have any gigs this weekend, so LG spent the night with Grandma, and Mike and I watched yet another movie. Two in one day! I can’t even remember the last time I did that, but it’s probably been a couple of decades or more.

We went to see My Life in Ruins. Mike proclaimed it a cute date movie. (The funny thing about that is that earlier in the day, he said something about going to see Terminator, which I vetoed, since I’m not really a big fan.) Anyway, it wasn’t a horrible movie even though it didn’t get very good reviews. Half the reason I wanted to see it was because it was set in Greece and I fell in love with Greece in the movies while watching Mamma Mia. Tonight’s movie started off not so great and I thought it was going to be pretty bad, but it got better as it went along and Greece most definitely did not disappoint. There were definitely some great laughs, but I would say if you are trying to decide between two movies, you should probably pick the other movie. However, Richard Dreyfuss was lovely in it.

Have a lovely weekend!

Mike’s handyman work schedule has slowed down a bit, even though he’s still managing to keep getting work, but we’re back to going job to job versus having a list of jobs for him to complete and being scheduled a few weeks out. I have faith it will pick up – it always does and he has a couple of other irons in the fire, so we’ll see where those lead.

In the meantime, it gives him more time to do stuff around the house which makes me happy! Today, he put a shelf in the laundry room above the washer and dryer and started working on installing the last cabinets in the island so that maybe just maybe we can get the island finished one of these days.

He’s also going to be able to join LG and I at summer movies tomorrow, which she is very excited about.

Yummy pot roast made in the crock pot today and watching Enchanted on the dvd player tonight. Otherwise, pretty quiet.

365 Days of Grace #153: Four and a Half

Dear Little Girl,

Today you turned four and a half years old. In six short months, you will be five years old, and the implications of that are kind of mind-boggling, so let’s just focus on the now and the near future. (Read on …)

Nothing much going on around here, but I will say that I enjoyed Conan O’Brien’s debut as host of the Tonight Show more than I’ve enjoyed the Tonight Show since Johnny Carson (the greatest talk show host that ever lived) retired. That is all.
