365 Days of Grace #179 & #180
Just couldn’t convince myself to write a post yesterday. Oh well. Today is another day. ;)
LG spent yesterday evening (while we were at church) at Grandma’s making cookies with her cousin D. Cousin D is actually around our age but on the same tier of the family as LG. So, Cousin D’s mom is Mike’s first cousin, which makes Cousin D and LG 2nd cousins. Got it? Anyway, they made sugar cookies, but didn’t have time to frost them last night, so Mike took her back over there this morning to help Cousin D frost the cookies. He then installed a new faucet for his dad and went off to do some errands and attend a meeting at church. After the meeting, he’ll go retrieve LG, they will come home and change and head to the pool. So basically, I have the whole day pretty much to myself. Except I don’t have a car so I can’t go anywhere. My car has the car seat so Mike has to use it to transport LG to and fro.
Anyway, what do you do with a day to yourself? A long bath sounds good, but my big bathtub needs cleaned first (it’s in the incomplete bathroom so we rarely use it and I am embarrassed to say I don’t get in there and dust as often as I should). I could watch whatever I want on television (and I might do that soon). I could take a long hot shower (but I took one yesterday). I could read a book (but I’m wasting time on Facebook and typing this blog post instead). I could do chores (um, yeah right :P). I could make my grocery list (probably should do that). But as stated above, I’m wasting time on Facebook and the computer. Hey, it’s my day alone, I can do what I want…lol!
But, back to my question, what would you do with a day alone? :)
One of Mike’s errands was to get a new post office box so that he could have an address in Phoenix so that his health insurance rates wouldn’t take a $50 per month jump in price. See, we live near the border of two cities and the post office that services our address is in the other city. Which means that even though we live in Phoenix, our mailing address is in Glendale. It’s really stupid, but whatever. The bad part, though, is that the insurance company Mike uses bases their rates on zip codes. And any zip code that start with 853 like the one our mailing address is in has higher rates because it includes the Sun City area (which is where old retired people live). So, do you get this now? We live in Phoenix. But our zip code is in Glendale. So because our zip code (from a city where we don’t actually live) starts with 853 instead of 850 (which Phoenix zip codes do), the insurance rates with that company are significantly higher. We pay Phoenix water, Phoenix taxes, use Phoenix Police and Phoenix Fire, the Phoenix Library, and we are non-residents if we go to Glendale Parks and Recreation (even though our address actually says Glendale - because they use a MAP instead of a zip code). Our house is physically in Phoenix. Clear on that? But because of what the POST OFFICE decides, we get charged a higher insurance rate. Stupid stupid stupid. Anyway, Mike had a Phoenix post office box that we used so we could get lower Phoenix rates, but forgot to pay for it and it expired. In the meantime, the insurance company got returned mail from the post office box and Mike had to give them our home address. Today, he went to get another Phoenix post office box and called to get the address changed with the insurance company. He was literally on the phone with the customer service rep for 15 minutes trying to get it through her head that we live in Phoenix and so he wanted to be charged Phoenix rates. Not sure if it actually worked or not. We’ll see. (And you wonder why I hate insurance companies?)
In other news, he also put in an application with a solar company, so we’ll see if anything comes out of that. They are actually hiring because solar is big right now. So big that they are behind and we are not going to get our solar panels installed until probably November. (That was supposed to happen in February.) A job with them might solve the insurance problem for both of us, so we’ll see where that leads.
And finally, if you’re an American Idol or Michael Jackson fan or both, tonight FOX is reairing the AI show that aired this past season featuring the music of Michael Jackson.
