Natural Light Woman
In the wintertime, it becomes very apparent to me why I live in the desert. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the cool, crisp air that signals the end to the months and months and months of heat, but I miss the daylight.
I hate artificial light. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. When we were designing this house, the biggest request I had for Mike as he was drawing the plans was “lots of windows – lots and lots of windows”. And he obliged. We most definitely have a lot of windows. Which is awesome for someone who loves natural light as much as I do. During the day, you will rarely see me turn on a light in the house (other than in the hall bathroom which is not near a window). I love daytime and windows because the house is spilling over with natural light and it makes me happy.
I get a little grumpy when I actually have to turn a light on. And I’m always walking around during the day turning off the lights that other people have left on. When it gets dark, I obviously have to turn on lights, but I seriously won’t do it until I have to get up and walk somewhere or actually see something. If artificial lights are on, I really feel like it’s time to curl up in bed in my jammies and read a book or watch tv or check my email on the laptop. Not actually do anything productive. I have a hard time getting anything done like sewing, or cleaning, etc., when I have to use the artificial light. Not sure why that is, but it’s how I am.
So, there you have it. That’s the main reason I like summer in the desert. I hate the heat. But I love all the hours of light. In the winter I’m happy because it’s cooler, but the whole getting dark at 6 p.m. thing is really a downer. And today was a cloudy day, so it got dark even earlier. And I normally like cloudy days mind you. Just not when it means I lose even more of my precious natural light.
I don’t think I’d last very long in Seattle, do you?
