So, I was all set to make today’s post a whiny one about how my morning didn’t go like I wished it had. But, instead I got a phone call from a friend this afternoon. You might remember, those of you who have been reading this blog for a long time, that I wrote about some friends who have been trying to adopt. They have had their hopes dashed several times over the last few years, but today she called and asked if they could come over and get our old car seat because…they had a baby boy! Two days old! Cute, tiny little guy. He even looks like his new daddy.
It was interesting explaining to LG that he came out of his mommy’s tummy, but that someone else would be his mommy instead. It’s a difficult concept for an almost 4 year old, but Mike told her it was like Melody. She came out of her mommy’s tummy, but her mommy couldn’t take care of her, so we adopted her and we take care of her instead. That seemed to make sense to her. I had never really thought about how I would explain adoption to my non-adopted child, but she seemed to accept it fairly well.
The birth mother and father still have to sign the papers tomorrow, so it’s not totally official, but it looks really good for them this time. And after all the heartbreak they’ve had to endure, I can only hope it turns out to have a happy ending for a change. Please keep all of them in your prayers that all goes according to plan! Hurray for babies!
