Beijing Olympics – Day 2

The Awesome:

  • One of the best relays I’ve ever seen – if not the best was the Men’s 100m Freestyle.  Oh. my. gawd.  I didn’t think they had a chance when the French pulled ahead, but the anchor swam the fastest relay split in history and came back to win that race in smashing World Record time.  I literally screamed out loud when they won.  Luckily LG is a heavy sleeper.  That was so exciting!  Take that, trash-talking French!
The Good:
  • Bob Costas interview with President Bush.  I thought he looked relaxed and gave great answers.  And it’s nice to see the president having fun watching our great American athletes.
  • The two final balance beam routines by the American women – near perfection.
  • The USA men’s basketball team – they’re playing well as a team, they’re supporting the other athletes and they’re not acting like spoiled brats.  Oh, and they won their game today, too.
The Bad:
  • The women’s gymnastics team last-minute injury and most of their floor routines – good enough to get 2nd place going into Wednesday’s team event, but not as good as they should have been
The Amusing:
  • When President Bush visited beach volleyball’s Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, Misty jokingly offered to let him give her a smack on the rear – the beach volleyball symbol of good luck apparently.  Instead, he gave her a pat in the middle of her back with the back of his hand – a little more appropriate for a sitting president, but I love the fact that 1) they felt comfortable enough with him to joke around and 2) he took it in stride.

Totally missed the relay last night. We were in bed, but heard it on the radio (it can play tv…at least until February). What a race! Wish I’d seen it live.
And if my husband was offered to smack her ass, he’d probably pass out. He lurves woman’s beach volleyball. O-kay…never saw that coming, but whatever. LOL!
