And God Saw That It Was Good

By Karin at 12:03 pm on March 24, 2008

It was a glorious, exhausting, wonderful Easter weekend.

Friday night was Good Friday service. It went very well, although there were a few things that were not as perfect as we would have liked, but I guess it’s always that way.

Saturday morning was the Easter egg hunt at church. Then Mike’s cousin came over to babysit for us that evening and Mike and I participated in the Easter Vigil service. I had three solos in all, and although one of them had a near catastrophe (which absolutely no one noticed but me and Mike), other than that all went well - although it was over 3 hours long. There is something very uplifting and beautiful about Easter Vigil, but it’s exhausting nonetheless. I got home around 11 p.m., ate because I was starving, put together LG’s Easter loot and went to bed. Mike had to go on to a band gig after Vigil and also tear down the equipment, so he didn’t get home until around 3 a.m.

We had to get up Sunday morning and go to Mass again. At least we had the 11 a.m. mass and not the 7:30 or 9:00 right? (LG was not being all that cooperative for this photo, but Rochelle persevered.

After that, we came home, changed out of our fancy Easter stuff and headed to Mike’s parents’ house for Easter dinner. We had a great meal, the kids hunted eggs…

and played with bubbles…

…and then it was time to go home.

After we got home, we did another little egg hunt just for LG, and then Mike put together her new all-terrain tricycle. She’s just barely big enough to ride it and I wasn’t sure she’d be able to, but she did a great job. She just didn’t really like peddling back up the driveway because there is a tiny bit of an incline so she had to work a little harder. ;)

But you know what almost made me cry? My daughter and I were sitting on the front porch watching her dad water the plants while she ate the jelly beans out of the plastic eggs she had just found. I asked her if she would share them with me and she said, “Of course! I love to share jelly beans with you, Mama!” And she opened one of her eggs and inside were three jelly beans - one of them red. When I was a kid there was no way I’d share my red jelly beans with anyone. But you know what LG did? She handed me the red jelly bean. Without me even asking. “You like red jelly beans, Mama. I like to share my red jelly beans with you.” I still love red jelly beans, but that was the best one I ever tasted.

May you have a blessed Easter season and may you have someone in your life who will share their red jelly beans with you.

You have a beautiful family, and I have no doubt that was absolutely the best red jelly bean ever!
