Strollers and Idiots
I meant to post yesterday. I had something to write about and everything. I was just so busy, I never managed to actually get the post written. Ah well. All good things must come to an end. But, I’ll try my best to post every other day this month. We’ll see how it goes.
So, what I wanted to talk about was my trip to the mall yesterday. The mall, in general, is not a bad place. Except during Christmas time. Then it’s insane. Okay, it wasn’t so bad a couple of weeks ago when we took LG to get her birthday/Christmas pictures done, but this week? In. sane.
First, you have to find a parking place that’s not a mile away from the entrance. Uh yeah. Well, we lucked out because I happened to find someone to follow and they were only parked half a mile away. Okay not half a mile, but when pushing a stroller up a slight incline, it started to feel that way.
Then you get in the mall and it’s like wall to wall people. People who do. not. look. in the direction. they. are. walking. Argh! Now, I will say that most of the people pushing strollers were pretty good about not pushing them into my path. MOST of them. There was one lady that I had to bite my tongue to not say anything to because she literally almost ran into me. And I had to swerve quickly out of the way. I mean, come on people, I know you’re trying to find things, but LOOK WHERE YOU’RE GOING.
And the worst part? They don’t apologize. They nearly run you over, run into your child, or otherwise get in your way, and they don’t bother to have the common decency to apologize. I tried my best to stay out of people’s way in the mall, and if I accidentally did get in someone’s way for a second, I certainly said I was sorry or “excuse me” or something. Sheesh. I was never so glad to leave a place as I was to leave that mall. And walk the half mile back to the car pushing the stroller.
Strollers. Let us talk about the stroller now. LG does not usually ride in a stroller nowadays. She walks and I have to use that extra pair of eyes God gave moms to keep track of her, although she does a pretty good job of staying close to me because I’ve drilled it into her head so much. But, she decided she would be okay with riding in the stroller at the mall, which, considering all the idiots trying to run us over, was a good thing. At least she had a little protection from the crazy stroller-wielding mom who almost mowed us down.
But I’m curious. She is 3 years old, after all, and I saw kids who were much younger than that walking free in the mall. I think LG saw it as a treat to ride. And for me, it was a convenience. I didn’t have to keep track of her in the madhouse of people, and I had somewhere to stash my bags. It was a win-win situation. But when did your kids give up the stroller?
