Off We Go

We’re out of town for the weekend (Mike has an out of town gig). I don’t know if I’ll have internet access or not (which is a bummer since I’ll be stuck in a hotel room with a sleeping toddler while Mike is working), so I may be incommunicado until we get back. Never fear, though, I’m going to set Surfer Sunday to post before we go!

Hope all of you have a great weekend!

LG said the first four letters of her name. So then Mike tried to get her to say the rest.

Mike: How do you spell [insert name here]?

LG: With a pencil!

All Kinds of Good Karma

Today is Columbus Day. Did you know that? Theoretically, I knew that. But I didn’t think about it directly affecting my life today. It kinda did, though, although I didn’t realize why at first.

LG and I had to go to the Cox Digital store to switch our regular cable box for a second dvr today. We got there, I gathered the cable box and the kiddo and I walked up to the store. And saw an unbelievably long line. And turned around and went back to the car. I was trying to meet Rochelle at Target so we could hang out together while we did our respective shopping. Which we did. But there was no way I’d have made it if I’d stood in that line!

Target shopping finished, I decided to try the Cox store again hoping that maybe the morning rush had subsided. Ha! But, since I was already there and LG was in a reasonably good mood, I decided to just take a number and wait it out. My number was 42. They were on 22. So. not. kidding. A little while later, a chair opened up and I snagged it so I didn’t have to hold the cable box and corral LG while standing up. By this time there were on about number 29. Then the gentleman in the seat next to me tapped me on the arm and handed me another ticket. 35! I thanked him sincerely and breathed a sigh of relief because I wasn’t going to have to wait quite as long as I thought at first. Then three ladies walked in and as they were looking for a seat, the nice gentleman offered them his seat (there were two open ones next to his) because he was about to get called. He was 33 or 34 I think. The ladies made a comment about it being Columbus Day, and I said, “Oh, so THAT’S why it’s so busy in here! I’ve never seen it this busy.” They were really nice and were talking about their number (49), so I offered them my 42 and when they hesitated thinking I needed it, I explained that the gentleman had given me a lower number so I was giving them my original ticket.

One of the ladies said that was just “all kinds of good karma” and kind of like “pay it forward”. And it was. I felt really happy to have someone be kind to me, and it felt good to be kind to someone else. Hopefully they passed their 49 on to someone, too – maybe someone with a small child who was dreading the long wait.

Either way, I think she was right. It was definitely “all kinds of good karma”.

So Happy Columbus Day!

Things that Made Me Teary Today

Today was the mass celebrating our Parish’s Jubilee (or 25th Anniversary). All the choirs from the different masses came together and sang and played as one. It’s not an easy thing to do – to combine choirs. The directors have to be careful to make sure everyone is included in some way, and hopefully no one gets their feelings hurt. It seemed to go well, though, and hopefully everyone felt included. (Read on …)

So, Mike and I were discussing all the shows I have sitting on my dvr that he needs to watch so I can get. them. off. And I kind of joked that we needed another dvr so I could record his stuff in the living room and my stuff in the bedroom since he tends to keep later hours than I do most of the time.

He asked how much it would cost and so I did some checking and found out that it would be $11 a month more than what we are paying now. He said if we get rid of our Netflix subscription (which we never use because I always have too much stuff to watch on the dvr – surprise!), we could get another one.

So I will be getting another dvr this week. And what that means is that, theoretically, I can record four different shows at the same time.

Awesome.

De-lurking Day

Filed under: Thank You! — Karin at 8:02 am on Wednesday, October 3, 2007

Hello? Are you out there? If you’re reading this in your feed reader, or you’re actually here on the website reading, then please come out of the shadows and leave a comment today. I’m going to try my best to leave comments on all the blogs I read today rather than just lurking as well. Because as you can see, it’s de-lurking day! So, leave a comment here, pretty please, but leave comments everywhere else, too!

And just to give you something to talk about, in case you’re at a loss, let’s discuss chili since it’s National Chili Month! I love chili. Love. It. So, in the comments you can tell me whether you like beans in your chili or not. And if you’re really ambitious, you can leave me a link to your favorite chili recipe so I can try some different ones out this winter. Or if you don’t like chili, tell me, tell me why?

Or you can talk about whatever you want, but whatever the case, please say something for goodness sake! Comments make everyone happy (as long as they’re not mean, of course), so de-lurk! It’s de-lightful! It’s de-licious! It’s de-lovely!

Today you are 34 months old. In just two short months, you will be be three years old, and I have very mixed feelings about that.

Random Post Because I’m So Freaking Busy

Filed under: Random Thoughts — Karin at 11:21 am on Tuesday, October 2, 2007

There is so much going on this week it’s insane. Okay, I know other people have even more going on, but I’m used to peace and tranquility in my life (ha!) so when it gets hectic I get a little crazy.

This past Saturday we had a family birthday party, Generations and Mass on Sunday, a cardiologist appointment yesterday morning, and Generations again last night. Today is quiet. Tomorrow I have to go grocery shopping and we have rehearsal at the high school tomorrow afternoon. Thursday morning we have mass at the high school and then rehearsal for our church’s Jubilee Mass that evening. Friday is quiet. Saturday is the Jubilee Mass (25th anniversary of the Parish). Sunday is regular mass. And then next week is fairly quiet until the weekend again. Craziness.

I went to the cardiologist yesterday to follow-up on my CT Scan that was done over a month ago. There wasn’t really any bad news. There was some good news. And there was some we still don’t really know news. The good news is that my blood pressure was 116/76 (awesome!) and my pulse was 62 (awesome!) and my heart is still in sinus rhythm (super awesome!). (And that was after sitting in the waiting room and witnessing paramedics and a stretcher coming in. Don’t know why. My out on a limb guess would be a heart attack on the treadmill, but I really don’t have any idea what happened.) The other good news is that the hole (Atrial Septal Defect) that was repaired when I was 4 is slightly open, but not enough to cause problems. Yay! The still don’t know news is that I still have this extraneous vein where it’s not supposed to be and he’s not exactly sure how that’s going to affect another try at ablation. In the future. If I need it. It’s certainly possible my heart will stay in sinus rhythm. Highly improbably, but possible.

I will be having an echocardiogram later in the month because I haven’t had one in awhile and because that is how to check the lower chambers of the heart which are the ones that are most stressed during a pregnancy. No, not pregnant. But, we’re trying to find out if it’s okay to try.

There is much more going on I suppose. But I’m kind of too tired to think about it. Besides, today Little Girl is 34 months old and I need to write her a letter. I will only be doing the monthly letters for another couple of months up to her 3rd birthday. And then, there will still be letters, but they probably won’t be monthly, and they most likely won’t be on her “monthday”. I’m starting to repeat myself and I want them to have meaning, so I will write them only when I have something important to say. But! There will still be pictures! At least for the foreseeable future.

Oh, I just remembered the other thing I wanted to mention. I’m taking a class! Online! It’s really boring! But in order to be able to ever get a teaching job again (if I need or want to), I have to have an endorsement in SEI (Structured English Immersion). So, I’m working on that. And then I will work on the credits I need to get my certificate renewed in a couple of years when it expires. I think that once LG starts school, I might want to go back to work because it will be entirely too quiet around here. Of course, if I have another baby, all that would change, but that’s a big if. So, that’s what I’m doing. I just wish it wasn’t such a boring class. *sigh*

Oh, one more thing! GO CUBS! (Yes I live in Arizona. Yes I used to be a fan of the team that is now dead to me. But they are dead to me because 1) they changed their uniforms to total ugliness and 2) they didn’t let Luis Gonzales play here until he retired – even after he offered to take a pay cut. So they are dead to me. And I’d love to see the Cubs win the World Series. The end.)
