‘Cause You Had a Bad DayApril 20th, 2006 @ 11:22 pm
I think the world had a bad day today.
Exhibit A
I went to Target this morning to buy a wedding gift and exchange some shorts for Little Girl. Every time I’ve bought something off a registry in the past (be it wedding or baby), all they do is scan the bar code attached to the couple’s name and then scan in the products you are buying. Simple. Makes sense. But apparently at Target, you are expected to CIRCLE the products you bought so they can scan them in off the registry as well. Because you know I have nothing better to do while I’m shopping with my toddler. Nowhere does it say on the registry list or the kiosk that you need to circle the items you are buying, but nonetheless the cashier was snippy to me about it. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Target. It’s my favorite store. But they have way too many grumpy old ladies for cashiers at my Target.
Exhibit B
This afternoon I got a phone call from one of the magazines I subscribe to telling me they would freeze the price for the next two years if I renewed my subscription. I’ve pretty much decided that I’m not renewing the magazine, so I told them so and she was very pleasant and I hung up. Not twenty minutes later, the phone rings again and the caller says they are calling about the very same magazine. Well, of course I figured they were calling to try and talk me into renewing since I just said I wasn’t going to. So I said “you just called me twenty minutes ago”. I was informed that there are “50 million magazine companies in the world” (yes she seriously said 50 million) who make phone calls. And she was quite rude about it. So I said goodbye and hung up on her. Because really, why on earth would I listen to some rude woman trying to get me to extend the subscription of a magazine I’ve decided to stop getting and had just said so twenty minutes ago? And, I’m sorry, but the odds of getting two phone calls twenty minutes apart for the same magazine from different “magazine companies”? I’d say they are nil. I think she was lying through her teeth. Witch.
Exhibit C
Mike was almost home from a meeting to eat dinner before we took off for church for the 4th of 7 masses in 9 days. Or so I thought. His cousin (who has been babysitting Little Girl for us while we are working at church) said he was right behind her. So I waited and watched and wondered where on earth he was and finally called him. Apparently as he went over the speed bumps right before our street, he heard a noise that he shouldn’t hear and looked in his rearview mirror to see that he had left the tailgate of his truck down and had lost a bunch of his tools. Someone pulled up next to him and told him that he had lost a power saw about a half mile before and a kid on a bike had picked it up, so Mike took off to find the kid. He did and the kid gave it right back to him. Luckily that was the most expensive item he lost. He drove all the way back to the house he had been at (which was probably a good 10 miles away) looking for his tools. Right near the house was a pile of debris which was most likely what was left of his things, but there were no tools to be found. Luckily most of his high dollar items were not in the truck today, but he still lost at least a couple of hundred dollars worth of stuff if not more. Stuff he needs to do a job tomorrow. So he’ll have to replace most of it in the morning. It’s already a lower income month than normal because church is salary and he’s doing more masses than usual for the same amount of money and it’s taking away time from his other work. But that’s life. Mike calls it a “dummy tax”. I know he will beat himself up about it for a few days. I wish he wouldn’t, but I know he will.
Exhibit D
Melody drove the babysitter nuts tonight with her barking. She is not used to us being gone so much at night. Neither is Little Girl who was apparently very clingy tonight.
Exhibit E
All the rest of you who had bad days today including, but not limited to: Marlene’s mom, dooce, and cmhl.
Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow, Daniel Powter notwithstanding.

Holy cow! I escaped the bad day plague? Whew! Let’s hope that one the last mass is over, things will get back to normal there Karin. Bummer about the tools too. My Mike would have been seriously upset.
