I Am Mama - Hear Me Roar
Little Girl and I went out to run errands today. First stop was Joann’s to get the rest of the things I need to finish the quilt. I hope. I probably missed something, but hopefully not.
Second stop was Albertson’s which was going just fine until…well first let me say, why on earth do they need to put those stupid advertising placards all over the grocery carts? WHY? Especially why do they put them on the back of the grocery cart seat? Because if I don’t have a kid with me, I don’t always open the seat part up. And if I do have a kid with me, the kid is blocking the placard. Duh. Anyway, whatever the case, besides the fact that they are pointless and I never look at them anyway, they are also dangerous.
Case in point: Little Girl is always trying to get to what is in the cart behind her. Duh. She’s 16 months old. She wants to grab anything and everything. Sometimes she reaches over and sometimes she reaches through the bars. Well, normally, neither one of those would be a problem, except now there is a stupid placard there and although she got her hand through the bars on the cart, she couldn’t get her hand back out again because the placard blocks part of the opening. Of course, she got upset when she realized her hand was stuck. So I stopped and tried to work her hand out. Which was not easy because we all know that getting into something is almost always harder than getting out of something. So I set to work prying her hand out of there which was made even more difficult by the fact that she doesn’t really like having her hands held and of course I had to hold her hand to get it out. Plus she was getting a little panicky about her hand being trapped. Finally I got it out, but guess what? The plastic around the placard? Has FRIGGING ROUGH EDGES. So she scraped her hand on the plastic as I pulled it out. And she started screaming bloody murder in the grocery store which she has NEVER done. I didn’t really blame her. I felt horrible. I was ready to cry right along with her. And anyone who knows her well knows that it must have really hurt because the kid doesn’t even cry when the dog scratches her face. There was a little bit of blood, but it wasn’t the dripping kind of blood, it was just the all the layers of her skin were pulled back in that one tiny spot kind of blood.
I was livid. And I mean livid. She calmed down pretty fast, though, as she usually does, and I got the rest of my shopping done as fast as I could and hoped I didn’t forget anything. When we got in the checkout line, I told the cashier I wanted to talk to the manager and explained what happened. So I got an assistant manager because the manager was nowhere to be found for some reason. He asked if all the shopping carts had the placard (does this really matter?), to which I told him that I didn’t really know (because you know I didn’t really know I needed take the time to examine all your damn shopping carts you idiot and shouldn’t someone who works there every day know this better than someone who comes in for groceries once a week?) and it didn’t matter anyway because half of the carts have broken seatbelts so you have to take what you can get. He said he would look into it. We’ll see. But if they have those stupid placards on the cart next time? I will walk in, tell them I refuse to shop there until they get them off and walk right back out again.
In the meantime, I will be writing a letter to corporate and I will NOT be as nice as I was in person. Stupid jerks and their stupid advertising. Grumble grumble hiss ROAR.
Oh, and to top it all off, when we got home and I took her into the bathroom to get a bandaid and neosporin on her hand, she tripped over my foot and fell face first on the floor. My poor little angel has had a rough day, but she’s napping now and I’m sure everything will be all better when she wakes up.

Poor thing. I usually shop at Fry’s these days and they have the things on the very back of the cart, not on the seats. i’ve never seen them on the seats.
I hope Little Girl feels better.

Yep. We have them too. I never thought of it being a hazard, but you know, if someone can get hurt, they need to get rid of them right away. Poor Little Girl. :(

Ohhhh, poor little girl. If she didn’t have those darn scratches you wouldn’t have had her in the bathroom and she wouldn’t have tripped either. I would have been livid too. Hope she’s feeling better.

Oh man I have never even noticed those on my carts before! I wonder if they have them? I will check it out next time I am at the store, I usually get one of the carts with a big butterfly seat for both the girls to sit in, it makes the whole ordeal a bit easier. I hope the rest of the day was better for little girl! Poor baby!

Sounds like a grocery store in this area, the customer service people just don’t seem to care. I refuse to shop there and have most of my friends convinced not to go there.
Poor thing, she is such a cutie pie

GOOD FOR YOU for escalating this matter… keep at it and don’t stop. I know exactly what you mean about the cards and the stupid straps that are always broken!
i hope they realize how stupid they are for making sure they have their dumb ads on there when it is obviously a safety hazard! i am going to double check every place i go into now to see if they have them there….
good luck!
