Flashback Friday - Breaking the News

In honor of the newest member of my friends’ family, this week we are talking about how you or someone you know broke the news that there was a baby on the way. Post your story on your blog, then come back and leave your link in the comments and I’ll add you to the list.

I honestly had no inkling I was actually pregnant, so when I got the pregnancy test on the way home from work, I didn’t expect it to be positive. So I didn’t really have a plan as to how I would tell anyone if it was. But then there it was. And at first, all I could do was walk around the house with the stick in my hand in disbelief. Then I called Mike. Yes, I called him. And I said “I’m pregnant.” Just like that…lol! And he said “You’re what? You’re pregnant?” “Yep.” “Okay, cool.” That’s Mike for you.
The next person I had to tell was Marlene. We very rarely call each other on the phone - we mostly just send emails back and forth all day. But she had made me promise that I would not tell her in an email, so I called her. She didn’t answer the phone and I got her voicemail. The message I left? “I’m calling you, so that should tell you what this is about.”
We didn’t tell Mike’s parents right away - we waited until after we saw the heartbeat on the ultrasound. Then after the doctor’s appointment, we took the ultrasound picture of the little blob that was to be Little Girl and went over to their house. We didn’t tell them - we just showed them the picture. And they were, of course, thrilled. Then Mike called all his siblings and my father on the phone to let them know.
So nothing very original or interesting, but it’s not so much about how you tell people as what the news is right?
I still love how my friend told me they had a baby on Tuesday night though. “I’m holding a baby in my arms.” That was pretty special.
Can’t wait to read your stories!!! :D
