Whew What a Weekend

By Karin at 1:46 pm on January 30, 2006

On the surface, it didn’t really seem like we had a lot to do this weekend…and yet…I didn’t seem to have much time to do much of anything that I wanted to do. Ever have a weekend like that?

Saturday, Mike had to take Melody on her first visit to the veterinarian for booster shots and since she was only one week away from time for her first rabies shot, she got that one, too. Mike usually tries to get to the Saturday shot clinic (where they only charge you for the shots and not the office visit) 45 minutes early so that he is one of the first ones in, but that didn’t happen this time. So he was there about two hours. Melody was amazing he reports. She was awesome in the waiting room amongst all the other doggies. She was great in the exam room and the vet oohed and ahhed over her (remember this is the vet that did a house call for us when we had to let Majerle go) and told Melody she had a great family and a great place to grow up. So that was nice. Mike took her in the crate in the front seat of his truck and that dog held everything in all the way there, in the waiting room, during the exam, and all the way back. Yeah, I know. Hard to believe. She left a rather large pile of gifts for Mike in the backyard when she got home, though. But hey, at least it was in the yard right?

After she got home, she proceeded to sleep pretty much the entire day. I knew this would come back to bite me at some point and it did.

Then, I finally got Mike to walk through the house with me and make a list of everything, no matter how small, that needed to be done in every room of the house, so that we could actually prioritize and plan and maybe get a project done each weekend. Great thought huh? Well, wait until you see the list which I have posted on a page on this here blog. It’s over there in the sidebar under the “Pages” heading entitled “House Projects”. I would link it but I’m too darn lazy to do so right now. I added in all the things we’ve done since we have moved in and I’ll cross things off as we get them done if you want to follow along. It’s a little daunting, but at the same time, it’s good to know exactly what needs to be done.

Saturday night at about 3:30 am, Melody woke up (she was in her bedroom crate which is much bigger and stays in our bedroom) and wanted to go outside and wanted to play. I was not really awake enough to deal with that, so I called Mike to see how close to home he was. The answer? About half an hour. So yes, horrible mean me made the poor puppy stay in her crate for another half hour, but I knew I was going to have to get up in a few hours and deal with the child and dog again, so too bad. Mike got home, took her outside and played with her for awhile before he finally came to bed.

Sunday we prioritized our lists for each room. And of course Mike added things to them as we went because that’s what boys do, right? It’s weird how this thing hinges on that thing which hinges on this thing which hinges on that thing and so on. But at least we know what to tackle first. Sort of. Then we had to go and do mass and make sure Marlene’s song for next weekend would work and it almost wasn’t going to, but I’m stubborn and was trying to figure out a way which helped Mike figure out a really good way and now it works. So everyone is happy. Whew. Little Girl walked a few steps to show off at church before rehearsal. Then after mass, she crawled up the steps of the altar and crawled around behind the altar and explored. She was eyeing the steps leading into the font and I told her no way was she going up those steps because she already got baptized and I didn’t need to go diving in after her thank you very much (especially since they only heat the water when there are baptisms and there were none. Brrr).

Today, Mike and I had to do music for a funeral, so Little Girl got to hang out in the office with Rochelle during that time. She’s actually VERY good in church, but a bit chatty and we figured chatty probably wasn’t so good during a funeral, so instead she got to play with the gigantic stuffed giraffe in the pastor’s office. AND, she drank her entire sippy cup of wuice (which is what I call juice mixed with water because I’m weird that way). Did I mention that she has finally figured out how to drink out of a sippy cup with a hard spout? Amazing. She has also figured out how to stack two blocks.

So walking, stacking and sippy cupping all in one week. What will she think of next?

Oh, and one more little note of interest. I also added a page on the sidebar that lists the books I have read this year, so if you’re ever interested in what I’m reading, that’s the place to look. You will find a lot of “children’s” books on the list because that tends to be what I enjoy reading most.

How was YOUR weekend? :D

Wow that sounds like a lot! I had a great weekend, got a lot done around the house which is always nice.

I am the same way when it comes to naming things. I mix a little yogurt into Kate’s milk so she will drink it, it is called yomilk. :)

I don’t think my weekend was nearly as busy as yours.

I love it when babies start figuring things out, they get so enthralled with what they are doing.
