Random Ramblings from a Too Quiet House

So much going on. Where do I start?

• First of all, thanks so much to all of you who played the Flashback Friday game today. I, for one, really enjoyed reading all your posts! I know there were not too many of this week (and half of you are my friends or relatives who humor me by going along with my crazy schemes), but we’ll keep plugging along. I know there will be more people who want to play next week, so feel free to steal the button and link it in your blog if you are so inclined and I’ll try to come up with a really good theme for next week! Thanks again. :)

• Good news - Mike and I went down and signed up for health insurance to start when my COBRA runs out. That is a load off my mind, especially since it will cover all my pre-existings with no waiting period. Hurray! And next year when I hit 40, we can move to a different plan without maternity coverage and our premiums will actually go down which will be pleasant. :)

• Bad news - Lady has stopped eating for all intents and purposes. She will still lick a little peanut butter off our fingers when we’re trying to get her to take her medication, and as of this afternoon, she is still drinking water, but she is having a really hard time walking and her breathing is slowly getting more and more labored. It’s just getting too hard to watch her suffering. I know what we probably need to do tomorrow and I hate that it’s come to this. Mike is in denial. He says we’ll know when it’s time. I said it is time, and you know that in your heart. But he will have to let it sink in tonight while he’s at work and I think he will have come to terms with it by tomorrow. Lady and Majerle and BobDog were our babies when we weren’t ready for human ones and they have been our comfort through so many years of ups and downs and joy and sorrow. In their younger days, they would have so much enjoyed having Baby Girl around, but I know they will watch over her when they are gone. Blah. It just hurts. I’m not so good at letting go of those I love. God only made one mistake when he created dogs. He gave them life spans way too much shorter than ours. Anyway, if I’m not around too much tomorrow, you know why. Thanks for listening.

Do Not Mess With Me Today

Dear Mr. Idiot in the Red Sports Car on the Freeway,

Ummm….in case you hadn’t noticed? We were not in the “fast lane”, we were in the HOV lane. And for your information HOV does NOT stand for Hit Other Vehicles who get in your way. So, next time you decide to go around someone who is already going 70 (and in case you weren’t aware, the speed limit is 65…that’s SIXTY-FIVE….do I need to say it slower for you so you understand it?) and practically sideswipe them and take their bumper off, be careful. Because they might just pull out a gun and shoot your tires out. Because they can’t shoot your brains out since it is fairly obvious you don’t have any to begin with.

Sincerely,
The Angry Mother in the SUV

Flashback Friday Reminder

Filed under: Flashback Friday, Thank You! — Karin at 3:17 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2005

Don’t forget tomorrow is the day to post your Flashback Friday anecdote to your blog and then come leave the link here in the comments. The theme for this inaugural week is jobs. I will post mine tonight (hopefully) so it will be there waiting for your comments bright and early.

Also, thank you thank you thank you to Theresa for designing the cute Flashback Friday button in my sidebar. Feel free to steal it and also tell her how cool it is! :)

Is There Any Logic in That Statement?

Filed under: Baby Girl — Karin at 3:01 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2005

Baby Girl loves loud music*. Doesn’t bother her in the slightest. She dances, she sings, and she even sleeps through it.

On the other hand, she does not like loud power tools so much. So today Mike is doing some more work on the cabinets with the nail gun. And every time it fires she screams.

So what does he say to her? “I’m Daddy. I’m allowed to go boom.”

*Loud as in live in her living room during rehearsals. Not loud as in concert decibel.

Holy Cabinet Hardware Batman

Filed under: House — Karin at 11:05 am on Thursday, September 29, 2005

Do you have any idea how many sites there are that carry cabinet hardware???? A lot. A very lot. And then on each site there are a zillion pages of different drawer pulls to go through. It’s mindboggling. And yet, I still haven’t found exactly what I want. I mean it’s not that wild really. Here, let me show you:

Kitchen Lamp

See that cool trim around the top of the lamp? I want cabinet hardware to match that. You wouldn’t think that would be too much to ask would you?

Closeup

And a closer shot.

Well, okay, it is true that I found some pulls that were close to what I am looking for, but they’re a little too oversized and umm….almost $70 each (yes I said EACH) is kinda out of my price range. $70???? I don’t even pay that much for SHOES let alone cabinet hardware.

Ah well, I’ll keep looking. And if you need me? I’ll the the one in the corner sucking my thumb, rocking back and forth, murmuring must find cabinet hardware, next website, next page, must find cabinet hardware. Yeah.

If My Child Is Not the Cutest Thing Ever, Than Seriously You Do Not Know Cute People!

Filed under: Baby Girl — Karin at 10:39 am on Thursday, September 29, 2005

Because yesterday afternoon, after she woke up from her nap, I brought her out to the kitchen to see the newly installed cabinets. Her eyes got huge and she gave her daddy a round of applause. SO CUTE!

And just now? She’s sitting in her saucer so she can see Daddy and I can type and she looked into the little mirror and waved at herself. The cuteness is just overwhelming I tell you! Overwhelming!

Okay, now back to your regular programming.

And on the 2nd Day

And lo on the 2nd day, the husband did install another cabinet, and another, and another, and another, and another. And the wife did smile upon the husband’s work and upon the beauty of the cabinets. And there was joy in Mudville.

More Cabinets In!

Join Me for Flashback Friday

Filed under: Flashback Friday — Karin at 10:15 pm on Tuesday, September 27, 2005

Inspired by Theresa’s Sizzling San Diego Saga and Miss Zoot’s Lament, I had a brainstorm standing in the shower today, and so I present to you: Flashback Friday!

This Friday and every Friday, you will be asked to join the blogosphere (or at least those who know about it) in sharing a flashback from your life. Some weeks there will be themes and some weeks there may not. It all depends on how creative we all can be thematically.

Here’s how it will work. On Friday (well probably Thursday night since there are a lot of you in different time zones who get up way earlier than I do), I will post my own Friday Flashback for the week. All you have to do is post your Flashback Friday anecdote to your own blog and leave a comment on my Flashback Friday entry. If you don’t have a blog, but you want to participate anyway, just post your story in the comments. It can be funny, sad, poignant, scary, doesn’t matter. The point is that learning about each other’s pasts gives us new insight into one another. And personally, I just like reading biographical writing. So get your thinking caps on, get your fingers poised on the keyboard, get ready, get set, and go! This week’s theme: Work Stories. Post a flashback from your job. It doesn’t have to be your present job, in fact, it would be better if it wasn’t. Talk about your first job or a horrible job you had or a job you hated or a job you loved. Then after your anecdote is posted on your blog, come put the link in the comments of my Flashback entry. I hope this is going to be a lot of fun for all of us, so please join in!

And, while I have a few themes already rolling around in my head, I know I will run out quickly, so if you can think of a fun Flashback Friday theme, please drop me a line at flashbackfriday @ three-part-harmony.com. Thanks!

Behold!

The Husband said there shalt be cabinets. And lo, on the first day, they did install a cabinet. And then they did rest.

Exorcism by Exercise

Filed under: Forward Progress — Karin at 10:42 am on Tuesday, September 27, 2005

I love Rochelle because her spelling is just bad enough to be funny but not so bad that you can’t figure out what she means. So the other day, she spelled exercise “exorcise”. But if you really think about it, exercise is exorcise in a way. So today, Marlene and I with strollers full of children went for a nice walk around my neighborhood. Okay, it started out nice because it was overcast. Then the sun peaked out and it got humid and yucky, but we got a breeze just often enough that we didn’t die, so in that way it was nice and also the fact that we got to have a nice conversation in between panting. Cuz pushing strollers on garbage day is hard work people! Because you have to go on and off the sidewalk. Around the garbage cans. On the asphalt. Off the asphalt. Work I tell you!

Exercise = Exorcism of the fat

Oh yeah!

My Day Off
