If Not for Good Friends Visiting the Day Would Have Been Total Crap

Filed under: Things That Irritate Me — Karin at 12:06 am on Friday, May 27, 2005

Three bad things:

1. A very good friend’s father passed away unexpectedly. Having lost a parent, I know there’s not much you can say beyond “I’m here if you need me.” I am.

2. Clog in the drain made yucky water overflow into the laundry room and the tubs. Luckily it was fixable with a snake and we didn’t have to pay anyone to come empty the septic tank. Hurray.

3. Found out bad news about a friend. Can’t really write about it yet. Maybe I will be able to later. But it’s just a sucky thing to have happen to someone you care about. So pray for my friend okay?

I’m trying to remember if anything good happened. Oh yeah, my dad called. After my friend called about her dad. After I thought, “haven’t heard from dad in a week or two - wonder if he’s still alive”. The phone rang not long after that thought. Weird huh? I guess that was a good thing.

Oh and as the title suggests, two of our friends came over and visited last night. That was cheerful at least!

Okay, I need to sleep now. Sucky day.

Blah.

Diaper Duty

Filed under: Baby Girl, Hubby Makes Me Happy — Karin at 10:44 pm on Monday, May 23, 2005

Mike took today off so that we could go see Revenge of the Sith (which I hope to write a longer post about tomorrow). Since he was around all day, he took over a lot of the baby duties. He got up this morning and got her when she cried, he made bottles, he fed her most of her meals, he dressed her, he changed her…all those fun things. But the best part? Not only did he change her, he changed EVERY SINGLE DIAPER today. This is the FIRST day since my baby has been home from the hospital that I’ve gone an entire day without changing a diaper. There is no greater gift. :)

Hands on the Bottle

Filed under: Baby Girl — Karin at 9:15 pm on Monday, May 23, 2005

Okay internet, listen up.

My daughter (you know the one who was 8 weeks early? The one who should be 8 weeks behind in developmental stuff? You know, that one?) just held her bottle BY HERSELF.

Okay, it was almost empty, but SHE HELD HER BOTTLE BY HERSELF.

Mike was feeding her and watching tv and then he said he felt this little hand reach up and grab the bottle. And he let go, and she held it plenty long enough for him to get me to look. Not long enough for a picture, but that is only because the darn camera was IN THE OTHER ROOM. Grrr.

But hooray for the baby girl!!!!!!!!!!

Music Meme

Filed under: General — Karin at 8:29 pm on Monday, May 23, 2005

The baton has been passed to me by Alysha so here goes!

Total volume of music on my computer:
I have 36 Gig of music between my pc and my Mac. I am an iTunes nut. I love downloading songs. I would kill for an iPod [yes I know Syndromes…you hate apple and iPods…so HUSH! ;)]. Okay, not literally kill, but you know what I mean. I almost always download the weekly free iTunes download unless it’s horrible. So, at least one download per week if not more. I love the fact that I can hear a song or a bit of a song and have it almost instantaneously. That, to me, is the coolest thing ever. I did an internet radio dj gig for awhile and so I ripped a ton of my cds to my computer when I was doing that.

The last CD I bought:
Hmmm…I think it would the Maroon 5 cd, but I’m not sure. I don’t buy cds nearly as often as I used to (our collection is somewhere around 1200+), because I tend to download the songs I want instead.

Song Playing:
At the moment nothing, but I think I would be listening to “Crying” by kd lang if I had one playing at the moment, because that is the song I have stuck in my head right now.

Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:
This is amazingly hard. I have way too many songs I love, but at this point in time, some songs that are important to me are:
Girls with Guitars - Wynonna (written by Mary Chapin Carpenter)
Crazy Love - Poco (the first song Mike and I ever danced to)
Higher and Higher - Rita Coolidge (one of the songs we danced to at our wedding reception)
In My Daughter’s Eyes - Martina McBride (for reasons that should be obvious)
In the End - Linkin Park (according to iTunes the top of my 25 most played list)

Five people to whom I’m passing the baton:
Well, err…I don’t really have a lot of friends who blog…and the ones that I have have already had the baton passed on to them, so I guess I shall have to drop the baton. Sorry! (However if anyone who reads this wants to grab it and go for it, be my guest!)

Hot

Filed under: The Weather — Karin at 8:47 am on Monday, May 23, 2005

Yesterday it was 111 degrees. It is officially hot.

You see, I don’t like to say it’s hot until it gets to 110. Because if you start saying it’s hot when it hits 100, then you have no place to go with your descriptive adjectives (and seriously when you live in a place where the record high is 122, 100 is not really all that bad). So 100 - 109 equals warm, very warm, very very warm. When it hits 110, then it’s hot. So ladies and gentlemen, it is HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT.

There. I feel better now.

Movies by the Bunch

Filed under: Entertain Me — Karin at 12:23 pm on Sunday, May 22, 2005

Time has poste a list of the Top 100 Movies of All Time, so just for fun I thought I would list which of the movies I have actually seen. Their list is in alphabetical order, so therefore mine will be too.

Blade Runner
Casablanca
E.T. the Extra Terrestrial
Finding Nemo
The Fly
A Hard Day’s Night
His Girl Friday
It’s a Wonderful Life
The Lord of the Rings
On the Waterfront
Pinocchio
The Shop Around the Corner
Singin’ in the Rain
Some Like it Hot
Star Wars
A Streetcar Named Desire

So, out of 100, I’ve seen 16. A lot of the movies listed I’ve never even heard of. So either, I really need to get out more, or they picked some really weird movies. Honestly? I think they picked some really weird movies. See what you think.
