will they ever learn?

It is very disheartening to turn on the news day after day and hear the same thing…another child has drowned…usually in a backyard pool…and usually the parents say…I only took my eyes off of her/him for a minute…guess what? That's all it takes. I often think that it's good that the news reports all these drownings, because perhaps, it will save one child somewhere…and yet, day after day, still we hear the reports of children dying. I don't get it. Don't they listen? Do they just go through their merry lives thinking…oh that will never happen to my child…but it does. It happens on an almost daily basis here in the summertime. And I don't know why people can't get through their heads that they have to watch their kids around water…they can never think that it could never happen to them…because it does…and the people I feel the most sorry for? The poor rescue workers who go on call after call after call to try and save these children and quite often have their efforts be in vain. It has to get to them. They are parents, too, or uncles or aunts. How do they live with it? Somehow, this madness has to be stopped. I wish I knew the answer. We have to have a license to be married, a license to drive, maybe people need a license to be parents, too. *sigh*
